Term 3- wks 3-4

 Week 3 Term 3 2024

Kaya,

I hope you all have settled into Term 3 smoothly. The students have adjusted beautifully, even in my absence and with a new relief teacher. I hope you enjoyed the weekend and the bursts of sunshine. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Learning intensions

Writing

We've completed our recount writing unit, where students enhanced their text structure, grammar, and use of adjectives. Next week, we'll begin procedure writing, focusing on clear, step-by-step task explanations.

Spelling

We are introducing the 'aw' sound as in "claw" and the 'au' sound as in "author." We'll practice swapping sounds to create different words using 'aw' and 'au'.

Mathematics

This two-week unit develops student knowledge, understanding and skills of position and chance. Students are provided opportunities to:

  • give, describe, and compare the position of objects using positional language

  • give and follow directions to locations and from one location to another

  • describe and identify the position of numbers using structured materials and formations

  • recognise and describe the element of chance in events and games.

School drop-off begins at 8:30 a.m., providing students with a 10-minute window to unload and engage in social interactions with their peers. We ask parents to say goodbye at the door. This period is crucial as it fosters independence in setting up for the day and facilitates peer interaction. At 8:40 a.m., the bell signals the start of classes. We kindly request parents to aim for their child's arrival at 8:30 a.m. to ensure a smooth transition and maximize the benefits of this pre-class time. Parents are welcome to come in during gathering time on Fridays. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Volunteers NEEDED!

On Friday, August 9th, during Week 4, a Bunnings volunteer will be helping the students create a masterpiece for Father's Day. It would be wonderful to have at least five volunteers, preferably mums, to assist. Please see me or send an email if you're able to help.

Keeping Safe

This term, the children will be learning some concepts relating to Protective Behaviours through the program Keeping Safe during Friday Health classes. The children will be taking part in the Keeping Safe lesson about personal space and body parts. We will be reading stories and emphasising the fact that all parts of their body are private. I understand that the children may laugh and giggle when we talk about the anatomical names, but this is important for every child to know.

Playground

It is a school policy that students are not to play on the nature playground before and after school. We have informed the students, and we would greatly appreciate your help in reinforcing this policy.
