Term 2 Wks 7&8

 Kaya Families,

Here we are - halfway through Term 2 already

Learning intentions

English

Writing: We are changing things in the information report mentor text to write our own texts.

Spelling: We're concentrating on the spelling 'ir, ur, and er’.

Maths

This two-week unit provides opportunities for students to develop their understanding of communicating data through visual displays. Students are provided with opportunities to:

  • collect and organise categorical data
  • interpret data to make informed decisions
  • identify and describe trends in data to predict the likelihood of outcomes

School photos

This Monday 27th May our school photos will be taking place. Please ensure your child comes to school ready wearing the full winter uniform including trousers, grey socks and teal woollen jumpers. Girls may wear skirts or trousers.

Family photos will be taken before school at 8 am on Monday 27th (A-L) and Tuesday 28th May at 8.10 am (M-Z).

Please visit this site for more information on the winters uniform. https://ladyofcape.wa.edu.au/school-uniform/

Reading Log

Please remember to sign the reading log after your child has read their home reader. If the reading log is not signed, we may assume your child hasn't read the book and will still need the same book.

Keeping Safe - this term, the children will be learning some concepts relating to Protective Behaviours through the program Keeping Safe during Friday Health classes. The children will be taking part in the Keeping Safe lesson about personal space and body parts. We will be reading stories and emphasising the fact that all parts of their body are private. I understand that the children may laugh and giggle when we talk about the anatomical names, but this is important for every child to know

Prayer Religion Unit

This week children will be starting on the religion unit of prayer. The Bishops of Western Australia ensure that Catholic schools teach the approved Religious Education Program, which aims to provide an understanding of the Christian message as handed down by the Catholic Church. All students, regardless of their faith, must participate in daily fifteen-minute Religious Education lessons, prayers, and Mass.

For Year 1, the focus is on learning and praying together as God's family. Children will learn about love, respect, and family values. They will study how Jesus taught about God's love through healing, storytelling, and interactions, particularly with the marginalized. The unit also covers Jesus' teachings on prayer, including the 'Our Father,' highlighting its significance in expressing love and respect for God. Non-Catholic parents are encouraged to share their beliefs and discuss religious similarities and differences with their children.

Triple P – offers support to parents

Childhood is made up of many little moments. Difficult moments, magic moments, and more. Because we all want what’s best for our children – now, and in the future – it’s good to be able to make the most of every moment, whether it’s savouring the great ones or coping confidently with the tricky ones. https://www.triplep-parenting.net.au/au/free-parenting-courses/triple-p-online-under-12/?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImdSBjfyphgMVQaVmAh13QwQAEAAYASAAEgLh4PD_BwE#au-parents-register-now
