Term 4 weeks 3 & 4

 Kaya,

How fast did those first two weeks go?! The year ones have started the term strong with impressive reading level growth. I am so proud of them all!

1N and 1K have been joining together during HASS and Art lessons to allow them to develop friendships throughout the cohort.

Welcome to our new principal, Mrs Angela Hegney! We loved you visiting our class.

Learning Intentions for the fortnight

Spelling:

In the upcoming two weeks, the students will practice words containing the 'ear,' 'eer,' 'air,' and 'are' sounds to create various words.

Writing:

The students will first rehearse summarising a narrative tale and then select components of a narrative text. Next, they will examine the vocabulary utilised in various texts.

Maths: Fractions

Recognise and describe one-half as one of two equal parts of a whole by sharing a collection of readily available materials into two equal portions, splitting an object into two equal pieces and describing how the pieces are equal.

Homework

A new homework book will be sent home for Term 4, and a new fortnightly list will be sent home next week (week 2/3). Please remember to complete the information and sign the reading log each night. Books will continue to be changed on Wednesdays and Fridays. Bringing folders daily is a good idea so they are remembered during book exchange times.

 Secret Santa Year 1

Christmas is quickly approaching, and with all of the hustle and bustle and excitement of the season, the students have requested to do a Secret Santa gift exchange. We will exchange gifts in week 9 during our Year 1 Christmas party. We want to set a maximum of about $10 for each gift. More information will come home soon about your child's secret Santa. PLEASE remind them to keep it a secret!! If you have any questions, please get in touch with me.

Important Information:

  • School Photo Day is approaching! Fotomakers WA will visit Our Lady of the Cape Primary School on the 26th of October, 2023. All orders will need to be placed online. There is no option to pay with cash. Every student has received an information letter to take home. The information letter gives the students a unique access key for ordering online and clear instructions for ordering your photos. Note that all students from Y1 – Y6 should wear full formal uniforms on Thursday. This includes shorts for boys, shorts or summer dresses for girls and winter green woollen formal jumpers for all students in those years. Hair accessories must be in school colours only (teal green, white or black). Please ensure your children are wearing the correct footwear. Year 1N & 1K parents, please be aware that due to PE lessons being on photo day (Thursday), we ask that the students from these classes come to school in full formal uniform, with their joggers in their bags, ready for PE.
  • Next Friday is World Teachers Day, the theme being Hats Off To Teachers. To celebrate the fantastic teachers we have at OLC, the P&F will be hosting a morning tea for the teachers. To join in the fun and celebrate the teachers, the students are asked to wear a fun hat to school.
  • Grandparents Day. We will celebrate Grandparents Day on Friday, the 3rd of November (Week 4). We will start at 9.00 a.m. 1K assembly. Grandparents can then go into classrooms for activities from 9.30-10.40. At 10:40, they will have an opportunity to share morning tea with their grandchildren.
  • Pupil Free Day Friday 10th November
