Term3 weeks 9-10

 Kaya,

We are on a downward run toward the end of Term 3. We've been extremely busy all term with lots of excellent learning, and the children have worked really hard. They are all getting a little tired, so give them as much rest as possible. We have lots of exciting events happening within the last two weeks.

I am attending a PD on Monday 11th, September but will return on Tuesday, September 12, ready to get through the last two weeks together. #TeamNeal

With our assembly fast approaching, we are practising every day. Your child will be sent home with their script. Please help them practice at home, giving them more confidence for the day. The assembly will be in the morning at 9 a.m. on Friday, week 10, along with the Book Week Parade. Our costume for the assembly is their book week costume (yes, I know, clever, right 😉). Please let me know if your child will not be at school on the last day.

Learning Intentionsfor the fortnight

Spelling: To make different words this fortnight, we use the phonic 'oy' as in boy 'oi' as in coin, ‘y’ as in cry and 'ey as in donkey.

Writing:

In the coming weeks, students will be examining modality words and persuasive signposts to enhance persuasive texts. High modality words convey strong certainty, such as 'definitely,' 'must,' and 'guaranteed.' Persuasive signposts are phrases that guide the audience and reinforce arguments, such as 'Furthermore,' 'In conclusion,' and 'Consider this.

Maths

Week 9: Fact Families: Introduce fact families, where a set of three numbers is related through addition and subtraction. For example, with the numbers 3, 4, and 7, children can see that 3 + 4 = 7 and 7 - 4 = 3.

Week 10: Statistics and probability (chance) Identify outcomes of familiar events involving chance and describe them using everyday language such as ‘will happen’, ‘won’t happen’ or ‘might happen’

Home Reading Folders

Please sign your child’s reading folder so we know they have read the book. If it is not signed, we are taking it as you need the same book to read as you didn’t get time.

Encouraging reading at home is pivotal for a child's holistic development. It fosters language skills, cognitive growth, and academic success, enhancing vocabulary, critical thinking, and comprehension. Reading sparks imagination, empathy, and creativity while improving attention span and reducing stress. It cultivates a strong parent-child bond, instils lifelong learning habits, and imparts essential life skills. Parents can lead by example, provide a reading-friendly environment, engage in discussions, and respect their child's preferences, ultimately nurturing a love for reading beyond childhood.

Reading folders will be left at school over the holidays to give students a much-needed break.

Learning Journey

The open classrooms event this Wednesday after school is another great way to see more about your child's learning.  In 1N, we will put out a sample of work such as our published writing, “How to Trap a Unicorn”, art- geometric pineapples, a maths game to play together and other subject areas for you to peruse and discuss learning with your child. Parents are asked to complete ‘two stars and a wish. Write two things you think make your child a shining star and one wish for your child to accomplish this year.

OLC School Sports Carnival-Students must be at their classrooms at 8:30 a.m. so the roll can be taken before heading to the oval at 9 a.m., ready forthe 9.15 start.  Please ensure your child wears sunscreen and a hat in a full sports uniform. Pack a lunch box or order a sausage sizzle via QuickCliq. The weather looks good!
