Welcome back to Term 3 in 1N-weeks 1 & 2

 KAYA,

Welcome back to Term 3!

We hope you all have had an excellent holiday with family, friends and memories despite the winter weather of rain and a lot of wind! We had a wonderful time, but I cannot wait to get back into Term 3 to see the 1N family and to hear the student’s stories.

Celebrating the fond farewells of the wonderful Mr Lee with you on the last week of school was wonderful.

Learning Intentions for the fortnight

Spelling: The spelling focus for the fortnight is on the phonics "ir," as in girl; "ur," as in fur; and "er," as in her.

Writing: We will look at procedure texts and how they're put together. We'll also learn the specific words used in this type of writing. Procedure texts give step-by-step instructions for doing something, like recipes or manuals. Understanding their structure and vocabulary will help us write clear and easy-to-follow instructions.

Mathematics:

Week 1 revising solving subtraction problems using various strategies, including counting on, partitioning and rearranging parts.

Week 2 students will be introduced to meaningful contexts to practice skip-counting by making equal groups using active, highly visual, and kinaesthetic hands-on learning with explicit teacher modelling.

Home folders

Please continue to bring in home folders daily. Reading books will be exchanged Monday and Wednesday. Please remember to write in your child’s reading log so we know when they have finished their book to change to a new book.

Dance Semester 2!

Year 1 will start Dance for Semester 2 starting week 1 of Term 3. Our Dance Day is Monday. Please ensure your child wears sport uniform on Monday, Thursday, and Friday?

YAY, Mrs King's 40th Birthday on Friday the 28th of July!!!  🎂🎈

Staff changes

Mrs King is needed in another classroom for weeks 1 and 2 of Term 3 but will be back in 1N starting week 3.

Year 1 100 Days of School class party!!! 🎈🥳🎉

Week 4 Friday 11th of August. Both year 1 classes will combine to celebrate 100 days of learning in year 1. Students are invited to wear P.J.'s and bring a plate to share.

Boys- savoury 🍕 Girls- sweet. 🍩

Please remember we are a nut-free school and also have a student with an egg allergy. 😋

Term 3 News follows the format of ‘object description’. They will need to describe their news using two elements such as:

  • What it is + what type

  • What it is + where is found

  • What it is + one piece of information

  • What it is + what it is used for

  • What it is + what is it made from

When your child tells their news, I have asked them to use the 5 W's: Who, What, Where, When, and Why. Let's explore what each of these means:

1. Who: This is about the people or characters involved in the news. Children should talk about who is doing something, who the news is about, or who is affected by the event or situation.

2. What: This is about the main action or event. Children should describe what is happening, what is being talked about, or what is important to know.

3. Where: This is about the location or place where the news is taking place. Children should mention where something is happening, where an event occurred, or where people or things are located.

4. When: This is about the time or timeframe of the news. Children should share when something happened, when it will happen, or how long it lasted.

5. Why: This is about the reason or purpose behind the news. Children should explain why something is important, why it happened, or why people are interested.

By including these 5 W's in their news, children can provide a complete and well-rounded story for their audience.

Please help your child prepare using the above format. If your child would like to use a photo, please email me. Tarma.neal@cewa.edu.au

VIA Character Strength – Prudence

When it comes to friendship, empathy is essential in building and maintaining a healthy connection. It's time for your students to take a stroll in someone else's shoes and discover that friendship is... Empathy!

Thanks for your ongoing support. Enjoy the last few days of your time with your child. We cannot wait to see fresh-faced and bushy-tailed everyone on Monday!

Kind regards,

💜Tarma, Lauren and Linde.
