Term 2- weeks 3 & 4.

 Kaya (welcome) Families,

I'm super happy with how the Year 1's nailed last Friday’s prayer assembly! They were confident and enthusiastic on stage, reciting their lines and singing their song like pros. You could tell they'd put so much work into preparing for it, and it really paid off.

Their prayers were delivered with sincerity and passion, and it was obvious that they understood how important the occasion was. They weren't just showing off their skills - they were showing us what kind of people they are and what they believe in.

These kinds of events are so much more than just performances. They teach kids all sorts of essential skills like working together, being a leader, and bouncing back when things don't go as planned. The Year 1's did a fantastic job showing us what they're capable of, and I can't wait to see what they'll do next.

 Learning Intentions for the fortnight

Spelling: This fortnight’s spelling focus is ‘ee’ as in tree and ‘ea’ as in leaf.

Writing: We revisit the structure of a recount text, look at where to place capital letters and full stops, and discuss how proper nouns need a capital letter.

Mathematics: We use strategies to identify missing numbers in an addition number sentence.

Bugs and Things – A few bugs are going around at the moment, and I have been notified that COVID is up and about again...we had almost forgotten about that!

A gentle reminder to help keep us all well...tummy bugs, 24-hour symptom-free and students are good to return...COVID, as symptom-free as possible but ideally with a negative result if possible.

If your child has any cold-like symptoms, please make sure that you give them a RAT each morning whilst they are showing symptoms...doing this keeps us all, including our extended community, well.

If your child tests POSITIVE, please notify me as soon as possible.

Home Reading Folders

Parents, please write the name of your child's reading book in their reading log and leave a comment about their experience. This helps me to understand their reading habits and provide better recommendations.

Year 1 Cultural Experience

This is just a quick update to inform you that more information about the Year 1 cultural experience will be available closer to the date. The excursion will be on Monday, June 19th. Stay tuned for further updates!

Book Fair 2023
You probably would have already seen the posters around the school. The book fair will occur Tuesday and Wednesday in Week 4 (16th & 17th May). Opening times for parents/grandparents to come are:
Tue 8- 8.30 am and 3-4 pm
Wed 8-8.30 am & 3-3.30 pm

As well as being open during the above hours, the book fair will also be available to the students during 2nd lunch. They will also have class time to browse. There will be a simple competition ALL students (not just the ones who buy a book) can enter. There will be one winner per year group, and they can choose a book to keep. OLC gets a commission from all books sold – we can get it as books from the fair for the library, some scholastic points to spend at the Scholastic shop later in the year or a cash amount that can be spent at local bookshops.
